In the coming months and years, I will write about business and development issues and occasionally pick up on social issues as I see them from my position here on the ground in Ethiopia. My views on these topics, and the philosophy that led to the creation of our firm, Precise Consult International PLC, is that business is the one sustainable path to quench the development aspirations of Ethiopia and Ethiopians.
When we set up Precise Consult International (PCI) in 2007, we set it up as a small premium consulting Services Company with a big and daring vision. We sensed very much that the challenge of business and development in Ethiopia is closely intertwined with our country’s long history of isolation. Isolation has meant that we continually missed out on innovations taking place elsewhere in the world, enabling our competitors to produce more efficiently and thereby build their economies. It has also meant that the wealth of opportunities that could have been gained from trading with the rest of the globe was forfeited. To make matters worse, while we were looking away, the world went sophisticated and intertwined. The premium for being able to penetrate lucrative global markets increased very quickly right along with the degree of difficulty associated with rising global competition.
On our attempt to rejoin globalization, we must necessarily learn the language of global business that we have stopped to speak centuries ago. The major issue facing the Ethiopian state today in its development effort is to build globally competitive economy.
Our attempt to be part of the solution focuses on building a bridge of information and communication with the ability to link the emerging Ethiopian private sector with the world of international business.
Ethiopia Investor (www.ethiopiainvestor.com) is our first attempt at creating such a platform for connecting ideas, resources, networks, and information for doing business in Ethiopia.
